NIÑOS DEL LAGO
We are proud to say that most of our students heard about us from people who had attended our school in the past.
Fantastic School and Family
I spent 6 weeks at the school and from knowing no Spanish at all before arriving the quality of the school and teachers had me speaking within 2 weeks of 6hours/day and very fluent by the end. I am very grateful to the school which was fantastical value and also to my host family Rosa and Sebastian who I would recommend to anyone thinking about doing a home stay. Rosa is very friendly, funny and a great cook and Sebastian is also very patient and helpful to students allowing them to practice what they learnt at school in the home.

As a family we attended the school for two weeks during a year long trip from the United States through Central and South America. The school exceeded my expectations. We had individualized teachers and lessons plans that assisted each of us to learn at our own pace and in our own style. We were extremely happy with all three teachers. We participated in a variety of the social activities, including doing some volunteer work with Ninos de Lago, and we found all of the activities to be enriching and fun. We also did the home stay with an incredible family. We were very pleased with the accommodations, wonderful food and the relationships we developed with them. I would strongly recommend the school to anyone traveling through Guatemala.

Educational and Memorable Experience
I highly recommend the Spanish School of San Pedro for anyone wishing to enjoy a wonderful human experience while learning the Spanish language.
I traveled from Colorado in the United States to Guatemala to attend the Spanish School of San Pedro. What I experienced during my 5 weeks there was an extremely organized and dedicated staff at the school who administered teaching the Spanish language expertly. The school is located on the shore of beautiful Lake Atitlan, and I looked forward to each day of studying beside the tranquil waters with my wonderful Spanish teacher, Evelin, a master at her profession. Additional activities, to include conversation practice with teachers and other students served to complement the experience as well as making friends from many other parts of the world. Also while there, I took advantage of another unique opportunity by living in a private home for the duration, immersed in the culture of the Mendez family who welcomed me into their home as one of their own. I know my knowledge of the language has increased greatly, and this experience at the Spanish School of San Pedro is one I will never forget.

Perfect Language School!
Thanks to all of the teachers and organisers of San Pedro Language School for providing us with such an amazing experience!
San Pedro Language School was a brilliant place to live and study Spanish. Our teacher was Humberto and he was fantastic, we learned so much in our time there.
San Pedro uses an approach to learning based around conversation so you quickly pick up new knowledge in a way that you can put it to practice immediately. On our first day we had a spoken and written assessment to judge our current level of Spanish and Humberto then created a series of lesson plans for our time there, focused on areas we needed to improve. This meant that we had a 100% personalised learning experience which was great!
The host family that we stayed with were also perfect and very welcoming, we will always remember them! The accommodation was extremely clean and modern, with a private bathroom and we enjoyed spending meal times with the family. Our host Conchita was an incredible cook and we ate 3 delicious meals a day while also getting to sample traditional Guatemalan food. We also did extra activities with our host family such as visiting a coffee plantation and driving to a beautiful viewpoint over Lake Atitlan.
SPSS also provides nightly extra activities which we really enjoyed. Every evening there was a Conversation Club which enabled us to practice our spoken Spanish with people at the same level as us through fun games and exercises. This was really helpful and we learned a lot more from our fellow students.
In summary, San Pedro Language School is amazing and we would highly recommend it!

Highly recommend this school. I spent 8 amazing weeks here and will definitely be back!
This school is the perfect place to learn Spanish. The teachers are all amazing and there is a beautiful community vibe in this school. The school is also set on the lake with amazing views. The private classes are great and are such a great price! The homestays are awesome, all the families are lovely and the food is in abundance. I will definitely return to this town in the future.

San Pedro is a beautiful spot to spend some time with lovely people.
My husband , myself & 2 friends spent 2 weeks in the school. We are all retired. We each had a different level of ability coming in & had different goals. The teachers listen to your goals & repond accordingly. If you don't like the first teacher assigned you can easily change. I was dreading "living with a family" & that turned out to be the best part for me. Lety & Luis treated us as part of the family. Our rooms were nice & the meals excellent.

Great experience - Best Homestay!
I had a super experience in San Pedro Spanish School. Ramon and Lety in the office were really helpful and informative, the classes were excellent and my maestra Christina was really great. There was optional conversation clubs in the afternoon to suit your level (very basic beginner for me at the start!) and other classes such as salsa too. I spared the others my salsa moves! I came with very little Spanish and after two weeks I learned so much.
The best part was my homestay. It is the best way to immerse yourself in Spanish. Rosa and Sebastian were the absolute best hosts and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. They helped me so much with my Spanish. I was made a part of their family and Sebastian was my second teacher who always made conversation and learning enjoyable. I originally had a hostel booked for Christmas but I was so happy I decided to stay with the family and even took part in their gift exchange (Kriskindle). It was truly an unforgettable experience. I was genuinely sad to leave my new Guatemalan family and would recommend staying with them to anybody! Fantastic food, lovely rooms, the best view in San Pedro of the lake and the most welcoming and helpful people you could possibly meet! Ask to stay with Rosa and Sebastian when you study in San Pedro Spanish School!
I enjoyed it and learned so much there that I signed up for another week with their affiliate school in Xela (Quetzaltenango)!

San Pedro Spanish School
My time in San Pedro La Laguna, studying at the Spanish School, was a warm and wonderful experience. I truly felt part of the community.
Every maestro and maestro I came in contact with at the school was delightful and seemed to care about all of the students. It was obvious they wanted us all to learn, both during daily classes and the entertaining evening activities.
My maestra Chusita had incredible patience with my Spanish. We had many interesting conversations, during which I learned so much about Guatemala in general and San Pedro in particular.
Within your mission of “connecting cultures,” she did a superior job. I learned a lot and she made it fun!
The location of the school is perfect. It feels like a retreat, tucked away in the beautiful garden mext to the lake. I believe you have the absolute best environment for learning.
I especially cherish the opportunity I had to spend a little time with the children at Niños del Lago. They are so bright and eager to learn. I was happy that by studying at San Pedro Spanish School, I supported that program in a small way.
Although I did not do a homestay, i had many, many opportunities to interact and communicate with the people of San Pedro as well as with those we met in San Juan, Panajachel, San Marcos and Santiago.
I think there must be something in the air around Lake Atitlan that causes friendliness, graciousness, and helpfulness. Whatever it is, I felt very much at home.
I was sad to leave, but arrived home in California determined to study harder so the next time I’m able to travel to San Pedro, I’ll be a much better Spanish student!

An Amazing Experience
I've studied at some excellent Spanish schools in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Mexico and Guatemala. San Pedro Spanish school really does have something special though. Part of it is the gorgeous palm-frond cabina classrooms set in the gardens right on the shores of lake Atitlan. Part of it is the care and attention of your personal teacher who will make it her entire goal to tailor a course to help you and you alone, regardless of your level. Then there is the professional administration and back-end support by Ramon and his team, from the first email to the transport home, making everything smooth and professional. Plus you also have the opportunity to live with a local Mayan family. The Spanish in Guatemala is very clear and easy to understand in comparison to other countries and this is part of why there are so many schools here.
My teacher was Elisa who was absolutely wonderful and if you want high quality food and a warm welcome from a lovely Mayan family, ask to stay with Sebastian and Rosa. This was a big surprise as I had expected the standard fare of simple rice and beans. Rosa takes enormous pride and enjoyment in her cooking and really should open her own restaurant and Sebastian speaks good English if you need that little extra help. An amazing experience, I'm already planning my return.

Trabajo y Placer
My two weeks at SPSS were exceedingly pleasant. I was likely an usual student, a retired professor from the U.S. who sought to upgrade his rusty and imperfect Spanish. I very much appreciated the serious but enjoyable style of my instructor Luis, who was a challenging and patient teacher; we shared a number of enjoyable interactions in the four hours of speaking Spanish daily that formed the structure of our mornings together. Adminstratively as well, the staff at SPSS, including Rudy, the logistics coordinator, is skilled and helpful. Adding to the instructional benefits were the beautiful surroundings on the shore of Lake A., and the hospitality and friendliness of the family with whom I lodged. That extended family was headed by Dona Rosalia Batz, and her wholesome, simple cooking was always healthy and delicious.

Great School, Great Quality, Great Price!
After attending San Pedro Spanish School in January 2009 for 2 and a half weeks, I returned to the school in 2012 initially planning on studying for one month. My partner and I had such an incredible time with the level of high quality individual instruction, the varied options for activities in the evenings, and the comfort we felt both in an apartment in the town and then later with a host family (both organized by the school), we ended up changing our plans and decided to really take advantage of the opportunity to learn Spanish thoroughly that we ended up studying for 7 weeks at the school.
Upon arriving to the school I was immediately greeted with familiar friendly faces, many of whom I had met in 2009. After a week and a half with Theresa as my teacher, I switched to Letty Yojcom, who had taught me during my last visit in San Pedro. Though Theresa was great, Letty and I already had a connection and the school is very understanding, professional, and accomodating should any students feel the need to switch teachers. Any time my partner and I wanted to talk to the school about any issues that had come up with our teachers or housing, the directors and coordinators were very approachable and handled everything in a prompt and professional manner.
My instructor, Letty Yojcom, was extremely experienced and organized. Each week began with a lesson plan that we both talked about and agreed upon, making short term plans and goals while making sure it fit in with my long term goals. After 5 hours a day for 3 weeks, I cut down to four hours a day for the next month to let some of the information sink in a bit more. While learning spanish I also felt that I had a personal window into the culture, able to ask questions about things I saw or experienced. Letty had a great balance between structured learning (tenses, verbs, expressions, etc) while also placing a high emphasis on my ability to speak, and therefore she gained an understanding of what I was still struggling with or what needed clarification and handled it appropriately.
I felt so lucky to be able to spend the 5 and a half weeks with Letty and was appreciative of her knowledge to continue to teach me as I advanced more in my Spanish ability. I couldn't say enough great things about the school and Letty. The school is lucky to have her. I was also so happy with my level of Spanish upon leaving the school, I was able to converse and be understood quite easily.
The quaint town of San Pedro feels very safe and the local culture is very traditional, with most women in the town wearing traditional dress daily. The town also is right on a lake with beautiful views of the lake, volcanoes, and mountains nearby. What a special place- I will be back.
Most recently, I have continued my study of Spanish through the school's Skype lessons available, and found them to be incredibly helpful! Luis, my teacher, is incredibly knowledgable and helped me get back to my conversational spanish in no time. I so appreciate the ability to continue my lessons through the school and find it a really incredible establishment overall!

Eternally Grateful for the Experience I Had at SP Spanish School
Four years ago I made a monumental decision to leave the USA to live in a developing country. I was living in a neighboring village with very few foreigners and spoke VERY little Spanish. San Pedro Spanish School was my safe haven and helped me with so much more than just learning Spanish. My primary instructor, Luis, was not just my teacher but my best friend, my confidant and my therapist. I laughed (and cried) so much in that amazing place with Luis (and Eligio) that it will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thank you Ramon for creating such an amazing place where one can learn in such a safe and comfortable environment!

Fantastic School, Fantastic Teachers
Consistently ranked as a top Spanish school in San Pedro.
I began studying as a beginner Spanish student in San Pedro Spanish School in 2006, nearly 10 years ago and have been coming back annually for 5 to 8 weeks of classes. I also go to the Conversation Club after class and have worked my way up to the advanced level. The classes are always fun, the teachers excellent and we'll trained in teaching Spanish. This year I studied for 5 weeks and changed teachers every week. I enjoyed my classes immensely and the teachers always had interesting topics to discuss in class.
The setting of the school is fantastic and the teachers know I always want to have a fantastic view of the lake, which isn't difficult to find! Birds singing, butterflies flitting around, lots of flowers and trees make for a peaceful setting in which to study.
The home stays are awesome and I'd recommend them. I've always stayed with a family while studying and the accommodations have been very comfortable and the food excellent. I'd much rather eat locally prepared fresh food with a family than have to decide what to eat in a restaurant. Plus it is very good value for room and board, and I've had the opportunity to get to know more than one local Mayan family.
Obviously I wouldn't keep coming back if I didn't enjoy the experience. I would recommend iSan Pedro Spanish School to anyone.

We have been working with San Pedro Spanish School for about 5 years and every year they provide us with excellent accommodations and unbeatable customer service. Our volunteers love the host families that San Pedro Spanish School provides and the food is great too! I would recommend San Pedro Spanish school to all my friends and family! The teachers were terrific and the beautiful garden bungalows along the lake provided the perfect atmosphere to learn Spanish. San Pedro Spanish School is a treasure. My husband and I found a unique environment for our spanish classes.....views of the lake, gardens, small private individual palapas to study under even a cafe serving excellent coffee and meals. It Is not your typical school atmosphere. We spent 5 weeks studying with 2 different teachers... smart, organized, interesting people with a strong knowledge of spanish grammar and Mayan culture. We have different backgrounds and have completely different levels of Spanish language. We felt that our teachers assessed the areas we needed to focus on and based our study plan on what would help to maximize our time spent with them. We're planning a return trip and have reccomended the school to our friends.

The school was really well located on the lake and it was incredible to have lessons there everyday. My teacher was brilliant and the whole stay was such good value for money. Excellente école !
Excellente école ! Je m'étais inscrit pour 2 semaines. J'y ai passé plus de 4 mois. Et j'y retournerai l'an prochain.
